An exciting opportunity to take part in a bike tour tracking Joseph Conrad’s footsteps in London!
Tours will take place on four Saturdays in September to mark the Conrad Year 2017 celebrations.

The Polish Parliament proclaimed the year 2017 the Year of Conrad to commemorate the Heart of Darkness’ author’s 160th birthday on December 3rd. Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski A.K.A. Joseph Conrad was born in 1857 to the Polish parents and became the best known Polish-British author of all time.

The Joseph Conrad Bike Tour project is an outcome of a successful collaboration between the Polish Cultural Institute in London and Joseph Conrad Society UK. Together with Prof. Robert Hampson, the Polish Cultural Institute in London developed the idea of custom-made bike tours, and co-organised it with Fat Tire Tours London, a professional company entertaining Londoners and tourists around the world. The Polish Book Institute, the national promoter of Polish literature worldwide, funded the project.

For many years, Conrad lived in and wrote about London. The riders will be taken on a trip to reveal the secrets London keeps about the charismatic author of Heart of Darkness and Secret Agent. From experiencing the ‘tranquil dignity’ of the River Thames as they cycle along its Southbank, to stopping at the ancient Borough Market, crossing Tower Bridge onto the docks where Conrad began his many exotic adventures, and visiting the locations of his publishers, they will be introduced to Conrad’s inspirations and events that shaped his work. The stop at the charming cafe for a free drink is on the itinerary.
